Enter a fresh tropical breeze for the music industry, Coco Machete Records; a label that has firmly planted it's roots in the New York City underground while capturing the adoration of fans worldwide. Prepare for "Coco Machete Records Presents a Night Called 'Thatch'"; a mixed compilation of rebellious rhythms inspired by the islands and cities, exposing a level of creativity and lyricism meant to challenge the meaning of the word genre.
Launched in 2002 by Sean Holland and Michael Davis, Coco Machete Records has been primarily a 12" single based label targeting DJs and club goers alike with monthly releases that refuse to conform.
Coco Machete Records is redefining underground and dance music by fusing elements of Hip Hop, House, Reggae, Disco, Punk Rock and Soul.
The release of their upcoming CD compilation and club night, "Coco Machete Records Presents a Night Called 'Thatch'", takes their sound one large step outside the DJ Box and to the masses. Set for a July release, the CD is mixed and programmed by Coco Machete artist Lance "Land Shark" DeSardi and label founder, Sean Holland.
"Thatch" takes the myriad of original releases, each with their own distinct flavor, and weaves them together to form an organic whole. The Compilation includes all of the label's underground hits including The Three Kings' "Shake Dat Booty," which was championed by Masters at Work DJs Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez and Louie Vega at this year's Winter Music Conference in Miami
Versatility and global diversity, inherent in their growing team of producers, artists and remixers have helped distinguish the label from all others. Coco Machete's roster includes legendary producers such as Pal Joey and pioneers of new school underground house music such as Lance "Land Shark" DeSardi.
Pal Joey, member of seminal hip hop group BDP, Boogie Down Productions, and creator of New York club anthem "Hot Music", is most recently accredited with work on Missy Elliot's new single, "I'm Really Hot". Lance, who also produces for San Francisco mainstay Naked Music, created the sensational single "Tie Me Up", which spread like wildfire to the UK and European Markets. "Tie Me Up" was later picked up by European label PIAS, Play It Again Sam, and graced with a slammin' retro remix courtesy of the Chicken Lips.
The founders of Coco Machete Records, Holland and Davis, formerly managed the A R and art direction for Satellite Records' Label Group and Central Park Recordings at their flagship store on the Bowery. Coco Machete Records is currently distributed worldwide by Syntax Music Distribution in Long Island City where Sean has worked hard developing a new label group comprised of over 20 underground/dance labels.
Producers Pal Joey and Dominique(Plant, Sound Of Young New York) will be hitting the decks for Coco Machete's record release party on Saturday May 1st at Gstaad, a lounge at 43 W.
26th St. NY, NY. and Friday June 4th the "Land Shark" himself will cruise into town for "a Night Called 'Thatch'" at Sullivan Room 218 Sullivan in the heart of Greenwich Village, New York City.
