Mae Jemison, M.D., the first woman of color to go into space and a native Chicagoan, hosted a Launch Reception on Monday at Northern Trust Bank to announce details of a celebration of the Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence (named after her mom).
The two-day event, Oct. 6-7, is entitled Reality Leads Fantasy: Celebrating Women of Color in Flight. Among the events to be held in various Chicago locations will include visits to public schools to acquaint students with aviation-related careers and the joy of flight.
The celebration will culminate with a star-studded Gala at Navy Pier.
