It is the first time, a jazz orchestra and the Izmir State Symphony orchestra have took to the same stage together and interpreted famous composers' compositions in the jazz style. Under the scope of spring concerts, Gershwin, Bernstein and Andrew Lloyd Weber's compositions were performed by the Izmir State Symphony Orchestra.
In the concert, there were two important names from the classic and jazz world, Ender Sakpinar, conductor and Burcin Buke a magnificent figure of the jazz music.

He is also a talented concert pianist of the classic music world. Turkish Daily News (TDN) talked with Ender Sakpinar and Burcin Buke about this perfect cooperation. Sakpinar has world wide fame as a conductor of the Izmir State Symphony, Stockholm Folk Opera, San Remo Symphony, Sicily Symphony, L'orchestre National de Toulouse and he has also founded new orchestras for example; Ensemble International de Paris, Aegean Orchestra and Enka Sinfonietta.

Sakpinar came from a musical family and he grown up backstage of the Opera because of his opera singing mother and father. He has an interesting story about how he chose this profession. He said, My mother had a pure voice and she was able to catch all the notes of a melody so her teachers decided to send her to European countries for education as a conductor.

At that time, 1945's, it was an extraordinary situation to send a girl alone to Europe so my grandmother didn't allow her to go. In my childhood, she always told me how much she wanted to go and I tried to comfort her by saying, 'Don't worry mother, I will go to foreign countries and I will be a conductor.' It was like a joke.

Everything started with a promise given to my mother but while I was growing up, it was looking attractive to be a conductor and I took this idea serious.
He worked with lots of orchestras in the world, but the Stockholm Folk Opera is very special for him. He added, When I got married to a Swedish lady I went to Stockholm and started to work as a conductor of Folk Opera.

I was able to stand just a year there because of the weather. It was light at 10:00 a.m.

getting dark at 2:30 p.m..

It was always cloudy and grey. But I am still conducting the Stockholm Folk Opera orchestra as a guest conductor.
He said, It is the first time, we have had this cooperation with a jazz performances.

It was a fresh experience for the orchestra and this kind of program, to perform regularly because of percept of the music has changed in the world. Big orchestras looking for new performance together with other music types. Jazz and classic music tunes, rhythms and colours of jazz and classic music is so different, but also so similar and harmonious with richness of melodies.

This kind of cooperation on the stage is so popular in the world and the music trends go through to light music.
Sakpinar thinks, it is very important harmony between soloist and the orchestra. He said, Burcin Buke is a very talented pianist and is inclined to jazz music.

He is also very successful about classic music. He has an energetic technique and a vivid interpretation of the composition and is creating an attractive atmosphere. He is a professional musician and he has an advantage because he knows perfectly both sides of jazz and classic music and this program was arranged to be suitable for symphony orchestras.

As a result, the performance was very successful.
Burcin Buke is a talented new generation pianist and he took the most important place with his glamorous performance on jazz and classic music world. He started to play piano at an early age and he won the miracle child competition in 1977.

Buke was educated at the Hannover Music Academy and he won numerous prices in international music competitions. He has performed as a soloist for the Izmir Symphony since 1998. He explain's his success, as if the composers wrote all the melodies for him and he played as if all the notes belong to him, because music is the colours of his life.

Buke has special interpretations of the original melodies and he play his compositions at the end of the concerts. He said, I am concert pianist but I am playing my compositions at concerts, for example My Dream which is compulsory work selected by the Selanik Conservatory as a graduating examine composition. My Dream is a very important composition for me because it is reflecting all my emotions.

He defined himself as a classic pianist although he is a very successful jazz interpreter. He said, I love all type's of music made in the correct way. He is one of the founder and soloists of Colour of Music Chamber Orchestra which settled in 1993, in Berlin.

He said, I am just playing as a soloist, unfortunately I am not an active member of the orchestra and also do not attend every rehearsals now, but I am just playing with them as a soloist and we are making modern music with electronic tunes.
Buke complains about the disinterest of public, press, and students. He added, When I was a child I admired Idil Biret to learn something about piano.

It is a pity for them, time is passing so fast and I have been in Turkey for the last three years, but nobody is interested in me, but I am always accepting invitations from Europe for festivals or to attend workshops as a tutor. Every year I go to the Selanic Conservatory for the workshop as a pianist and to give lectures to piano students every March and August. I also accepted an invitation from Carnegie Hall in America and I will give a concert in December.

In Turkey, especially, international organization committees think that foreign musician is always perfect and Turkish musicians are not good enough to be invited. It is wrong. If it is correct, I couldn't get any invitations from any international organizations, for example Carnegie Hall.

It is the second time Buke and Sakpinar have shared the same stage. He said, For the first time, we performed List 1. Piano concerto but this time we played symphonic jazz.

I am glad to share the same stage with Sakpinar, because he has a very good performance so I am very respectful of him.
