All sectoral indices closed in positive turf on the first session of 2007. The BSE Auto index zoomed over 3%. The IT index flared up nearly 2%.
While the Small-cap index surged 1.6%, the Mid-cap index was up over 1%. The market breadth was positive with 1,927 issues advancing and 656 declining.
Satyam soared 5%. TCS rallied 2.5%.
Infosys moved up 1.5%, and Wipro spurted over 1%. Bajaj Auto and Maruti flared up 4.
5% each. Tata Motors and Hero Honda advanced around 3% each. Hindalco and Gujarat Ambuja gained over 2% each respectively.
Ranbaxy and Grasim added 1.7% each. NTPC Larsen Toubro were up over 1% each.
Reliance moved up nearly 1%. Mahindra Mahindra, Hindustan Motors, Ashok Leyland Cummins India and Escorts Ltd logged smart gains in the auto Sector besides major index base stocks. In the technology pack, T Moser Baer, I-flex Solutions and HCL Info systems also firmed up by close.
Aban Loyd was the front-runner among capital goods stocks. It surged 18.3%.
Praj Industries, BEML, Carborundum Universal, KEC Infrastructure, Crompton Greaves, Siemens India and Gammons India were the other key gainers. Maharashtra Seamless, JSW Steel, Hindalco, SAIL, Sterlite Industries, Sesa Goa, Hindustan Zinc and Jindal Saw were some of the key gainers in the metal space.
