South African singer Lebo Mathosa died in an accident east of Johannesburg in the early hours this morning, her manager Linzy Cowley said. "Unfortunately, Lebo was killed in a car accident in the early hours of this morning," she told Sapa. "We send our condolences to her family and friends.
" The vehicle overturned near the Heidelberg Road off-ramp in Germiston, Ekurhuleni metro police Kobeli Mokheseng said. The cause of the accident was unknown. A case of culpable homicide was being investigated.
The rhythm and blues and Kwaito singer died at the scene. The driver suffered minor injuries, and was treated for shock. Mathosa shot to fame in 1994 as a member of kwaito group Boom Shaka.
She released her first solo album in 2000.
