The BCBC s got you covered in 07 Brooklyn Center For The Performing Arts kicks off the new year with Mary Wilson of The Supremes, Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players, Les Ballets Africains and Melba Moore With the new year, Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College (BCBC) continues its 52nd Season of music, dance, theater, and family programming reflecting the multicultural diversity of Brooklyn with an impressive line-up of diverse performers: Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players takes the stage January 7 at 2 p.m. for family audiences.

One of the hippest children s musicians on the scene, Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players returns to Brooklyn Center to belt out tunes from their latest album, Meltdown, as well as many old favorites. Honored with Parents Choice Gold Awards for two past CDs, the group s music is enjoyed by both children and adults at concerts, kids dance and bounce while parents stand behind singing along with Justin, whose voice has garnered comparisons to such artists as Nick Lowe, Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, and even Green Day. Tickets are $12.

Diavolo is under the spotlights January 20, at 8 p.m. Dancers, gymnasts and actors move together in outrageous situations on surrealistic sets as Diavolo creates near-cinematic experiences featuring powerful imagery.

Founded in 1992 by choreographer Jacques Heim to create interdisciplinary performances to examine the funny and frightening ways that individuals interact with their environments, Diavolo appears in New York for the first time since 2001. Tickets are $25, $20, and $15. Les Ballets Africains is featured February 3 at 8 p.

Move to the pulsing rhythms of ancient tribal instruments as Les Ballets Africains presents an exhilarating carnival of vibrant and uninhibited movement of authentic dance and song from the Republic of Guinea. For 52 years, the company has toured the globe; on one extraordinary marathon, they appeared in 165 capital cities, presenting an astonishing 695 performances in 750 days.

Les Ballets Africains strives to communicate the pride and aspirations of their people, fostering a greater understanding of Africa. Tickets are $35, $30, and $15. On Broadway with Melba Moore will be the performance February 11 at 2 p.

m. The show highlights Moore s impressive legacy in Broadway, television, and radio. A star performer, Moore returns to Brooklyn Center to delight and entertain with her magnificent voice and scintillating stage presence.

A Tony Award-winner for the title role in the musical Purlie, Moore was most recently seen on Broadway as Fantine in Les Miserables. Tickets are $30, $25, and $15. Hot on the heels of the success of Dream Girls, one of the originals, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, along with The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, will heat up BCBC February 17 at 8 p.

m. Enjoy Brooklyn Center s Red Hot Valentine s Concert with two of Motown s greatest names. An evening of romance and Rock Roll featuring Mary Wilson performing classics like Where Did Our Love Go, Baby Love, Stop!

In The Name of Love and You Can t Hurry Love, and Dennis Edwards leading The Temptations Review through their Grammy Award-winning hits like Papa Was a Rollin Stone, Memories, Cloud Nine, and Can t Get Next to You. Tickets are $35, $30, and $20. Brooklyn Center performances are in the Walt Whitman Theatre on the campus of Brooklyn College (one block from the junction of Flatbush Nostrand avenues).
