John Norris is an MTV News correspondent based in New York. He is responsible for covering music, entertainment, pop culture, politics and social issues on the East Coast. Norris joined MTV News' on-air team more than 15 years ago, as an alternate for the channel's principal news anchor, Kurt Loder.

He filled in for Loder as host of MTV's hourly news segments as well as for shows such as "Awake on the Wild Side," "The Week in Rock" and "MTV News 1515." The list of interviews Norris has conducted over the years ranges from musical artists such as Madonna, U2, Britney Spears, 50 Cent, Janet Jackson, Elton John, R.E.

M., Pearl Jam, Justin Timberlake, Coldplay, Beck, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Mariah Carey to political leaders including U.N.

Secretary-General Kofi Annan, chief weapons inspector Hans Blix and U.S. Senators John McCain, Barbara Boxer and Arlen Specter.

Norris made significant contributions to MTV's "Choose or Lose" election coverage in 1996 and 2000 as a correspondent at the national conventions, on election night and as host of a town hall forum with Vice President Al Gore in October 2000. He has also played a role in MTV's pro-social initiatives, hosting roundtable shows on drug use and gun violence as well as reports on the rise in ecstasy use for MTV and CBS' "48 Hours." As part of 2001's anti-discrimination campaign at MTV, Norris hosted a program on the death of gay student Matthew Shepard, as well as the show "Bullying," which looked at the deadly turn bullying has taken on high school campuses nationwide.

In addition to being a perennial figure on the red carpets at the MTV Video Music Awards, Grammy Awards and MTV Movie Awards, Norris' assignments have included serving as co-host of the MTV Global Forum with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell as well as the "TRL" 9/11 special, and most recently, he's played a vital role in the year-long sexual health campaign "Fight for Your Rights: Protect Yourself.

" He has also hosted numerous MTV "News Now" specials, and last summer he served as correspondent at the Michael Jackson child-molestation trial in Santa Maria, California.
