Full marks for Christmas concert FULL MARKS must go to the staff of the Prime Minister's Office for an excellent and spirit-filled programme, Christmas By The Sea, which came off on the night of December 22.

The programme was well put together and the entertainment was of the highest quality. I was certainly reminded of the wealth of talent which exists in our beloved parish when I heard the sweet rhythms of Ricky Benn on the pan, and certainly the electrifying tenor voice of Robert Best brought goose bumps to my skin as I stood in awe at the beautifully illuminated Speightstown Esplanade.
This Yuletide treat also featured some of our top Barbadian talent.

Gabby's performance with a number of children was a certain reminder that this season is about children. It was evident to the captive audience that they were having the time of their lives, and Gabby was his usual entertaining self.
The lyrical master, Red Plastic Bag (Stedson Wiltshire) rocked the crowd with his Bajan-flavoured Christmas calypso Maizie.

Although I would have missed performances by persons such as Richard Stoute, Tony Grazette and the various schools, from all reports those performances were equally enthralling.
It was a journey through the corridors of time when the Merrymen took to the stage to wish the people of St Peter "a merry, merry Christmas" and they did it in traditional Merrymen style.
I am hoping that this Christmas By The Sea will become an annual production on our cultural calendar and Barbadians from all walks of life and from every parish will come to know that the Speightstown Esplanade is the place to be when the people of St Peter join with their parliamentary representative to celebrate Christmas by the sea.
