Hedary's hummus, served with bread, has gotten rave reviews in Las Vegas.

The Hedary family hit a winner in Fort Worth 30 years ago.
Now the Hedarys have hit the jackpot in Vegas.

In a city known for big-name chefs, Hedary's Mediterranean Restaurant has won two "Best of Vegas" awards for Middle Eastern food from the local Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Owner Frank Hedary said his Vegas customers include Mayor Oscar Goodman, Palms casino owner George Malouf and ..

. Elvis.
"One of the best Elvis impersonators in town loves our place," Hedary said by phone.

"It's cool to see Elvis eating our food."
Elvis is not alone. The Vegas restaurant packs a crowd into a strip shopping center on Sahara Avenue, five blocks west of the neon of the Vegas Strip.

The dining room is lined with photos of the family's original Fort Worth restaurant, a "Lebanese pizza" cafe on White Settlement Road.
The White Settlement Hedary's opened in 1976. It wasn't long before Antoine and Leila Hedary had Texans craving their special Lebanese baked chicken with tomatoes, potatoes, olive oil, garlic and lemon.

They moved to Camp Bowie Boulevard in west Fort Worth, and a son opened a spinoff, Byblos Lebanese Restaurant, near the Stockyards.
Frank Hedary, another son, said he had always loved Vegas and wanted to try the market. When he opened his restaurant there in 2003, he brought along the Texas photos to show off his family's proud history.

"When we first opened, a lot of people thought we were from Detroit or New York," he said. "I tell them we've been in Texas for 30 years."
The Las Vegas Review-Journal praised the "ultra-flavorful hummus," tabbouleh and "kafta seasoned just right.

" One review headline reads: "Lebanon by way of ...

Texas?"
The Vegas restaurant's menu cover even lists the Fort Worth locations, along with a Dallas location that is closed for now while moving.
