/24-7PressRelease/ - DIAMOND BAR, CA, May 02, 2006 -- Artist/Author Carl Allen Schoner is offering a free copy of his new book, "Suburban Samurai - The Asian Invasion of The San Gabriel Valley," to the first fifty college professors of Asian American studies who request a copy. The book, which in the author's words is a provocative, sensitive, humorous and enlightening perspective of the exploding population of "new" Asian immigrants and how they have transformed life in the San Gabriel Valley, is controversial by nature and will spur conversation and dialogue among those who read it. He chose the word "Samurai" to refer to all of the new immigrants, regardless of their original nationality, to highlight the fact that most Westerners view Asian immigrants as all being the same.

The author says the mission of this book is to illustrate the inaccuracy of that perception, to highlight and dispel some of the common myths and stereotypes that Westerners have about Asians, and to illustrate some of the colorful cultural facets of this new Asian population. The book is currently available for preview at the author's websites, and Professors interested in receiving a free copy should contact the author via the email address provided on his websites.
The author and artist, who has lived in the Valley for 45 years and is married to a first generation Asian American, paints a picture of the changing demographics of the San Gabriel Valley through essays and cartoons and touches upon such topics of interest as image and wealth, Asian restaurants and dining experiences, music and entertainment, Asian banks, markets, cultural centers, feng shui, the "dating disparity" issue, the Asian intellectual superiority myth, karaoke clubs, and much more.

The author describes the book as a kind of "survival guide" for anyone who lives in the Valley, does business with the new Asian immigrants, or is simply interested in Asian cultural studies.
In addition to his interest in Asian cultural and language studies, the author also holds a degree in Behavioral Science and is a certified hypnotherapist. He is also a gifted artist and cartoonist, and his work has appeared in many prestigious publications such as Consulting Magazine, The California Law Student Journal, Chess Life Magazine, and The Saturday Evening Post.

He has also published a 400 page phonebook-sized collection of his cartoons and sketches called "Carl Allen Schoner's BIG Cartoon Sketchbook;" a zany collection of his favorite recipes and cartoons titled "Carl Allen Schoner's Cartoon Cookbook Sampler," a book of philosophical thoughts collected from his teenage diaries, and "Dream Psycles - A New Awakening in Hypnosis.
