Middletown ndash; Police Tuesday charged a Town of Wallkill man with hiring a friend from the Bronx to come up to Orange County and kill his ex-girlfriend.
Fermina Nunez, 36, of Middletown, was shot in the back of the head after she was ordered to lie face down in her Final Touch by Fermina hair salon in Middletown minutes before midnight on Saturday night.
Middletown Police Lt.

Paul Rickard said the motive for the killing was apparently a failed relationship.
ldquo;We rsquo;re not going to get into the specifics of the plot to assassinate her. In essence what this was just an execution for a senseless reason, rdquo; he said.

ldquo;There was no other factor involved except that she was trying to get out of a relationship. rdquo;
Middletown City and State Police, working with NYPD, turned up the name of Melvin Green, 36, of the Bronx. He was taken into custody as a person of interest and brought to Orange County Monday.

Police later found a gun in his apartment and are testing it to determine if it was the weapon used to kill the mother of four.
Police were also led to the 17 Avenue D, Town of Wallkill home of Patrick Bowie, 42, Nunez rsquo;s ex-boyfriend. He was arrested and charged with hiring Green to execute Nunez, who had apparently broken off their on-again, off-again seven year relationship.

Before Bowie left his house to surrender to police who were waiting outside, he slit his neck, stabbed himself in the groin and tried to slit his wrists, said Middletown Police Sgt. Gerry Mishk. Bowie was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center rsquo;s Horton Campus and was flown to Westchester Medical Center for treatment of what police said were not life-threatening wounds.

Both Green and Bowie were charged with first-degree murder and Green was also charged with first-degree robbery.
The two men knew each other for a long time, police said, and they think Bowie might have been waiting outside the hair salon to cue Green as to when to make his move.
While Bowie was going to pay Green for the assassination, police would not disclose an amount.

Mishk said both men have criminal records.
