The O.C. television series has accelerated the careers of a few indie-rock bands and artists, like Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie, Nada Surf and Imogen Heap.

On this, the sixth in the Music From The O.C. series, the producers turn loose a dozen indie artists (including former Lawrence residents Mates of State) on some of the bands who populated the first five O.

C. compilations.
A few of the surprises are worth several listens, too: Lady Sovereign gets all in the grill of the Sex Pistols Pretty Vacant ; John Paul White turns ELO s Can t Get It Out of My Head into a skeletal string-and-piano lament; and Band of Horses out-prettys everyone with its cover of The End s Not Near, a song from the obscure and now-defunct Dallas band Bedhead, co-led by Harvard history/lit professor (and Evan Dando drummer) Matt Kadane.

That s some elite college rock.
