Chris Biggs I just had a three hour conversation about everything that was great in our childhoods - real children s programming on Nickelodeon, the collective trials and joys of being an Orioles fan, and more. One day, will face his karma.
I am continually surprised by the shared that college students subscribe to (thanks, Mr.
Olney, for teaching us the word schema in 10th grade). The intricacies of AIM conversation timing, the theme song to Pete Pete (Hey Sandy by Polaris), and a bevy of other subjects where you can almost finish the other person s-
Sentences. Why would I say-
Sandwiches?
That time I was going to say sandwiches. Yes, the former Nickelodeon line-up from the early 1990s was clearly the best children s programming in history, and if I had run for SGA on a platform of reviving it, I would have won by a landslide, Chris and I agreed.
Anyway, it was an interesting night in that I thought my ESPN scoreboard was messing up.
I have the Capitals and the Nationals listed as teams I m interested in, but when I saw
The SGA elections are over. Emma won the Presidential spot, Daozhong stayed in as the VP of Finance, and basically the Block Party slaughtered all others. This was surprising, not because I didn t think they deserved to win, but because despite getting the Diamondback endorsement, the campaign seemed tilted towards Jahantab.
The same thing happened freshman year when Kraus beat Conochan after getting the endorsement but fearing that his campaign was not as far-reaching.
I was 5th out of 6, my second straight year of not being last. I received 215 of the 4200 votes, about 5% as usual.
Every year it surprises me that there are that many other students who take the effort to vote, and not even for a real candidate. Without the convenience of exit polling, this is hypothetical, but it appears to me that most of those votes are repeat supporters and word-of-mouth because I do no advertising (zero chalking and I never talk about it during my classes like other candidates) and get minimal (though much-appreciated) coverage in the newspaper. I get my personal profile each year but during articles on the issues and actual campaign process, it makes sense that the candidate with little to offer gets little column space as well.
So congratulations to everyone who won, everyone who ran, and thanks to everyone who voted. The SGA elections are over. Emma won the Presidential spot, Daozhong stayed in as the VP of Finance, and basically the Block Party slaughtered all others.

The same thing happened [ ] Matt and I went to a meeting today for planners of an Earth Day Benefit concert (no, we re not hippies, Matt is hosting the show and I was there as liaison for The Bureau, who are performing). During the discussions of needs, one girl looks at me and asks Do you want a ?
Now what she meant to say was Do you want a microphone? but she was looking at my hat which reads Google and made a Freudian slip. Personally, the funniest part to me was that in popular language, a Google has now come to be used as a euphemism for sexual relations.
This is and most recently in one of Jogina s sketches (also, in that case, asked of me by her).
After that, Matt and I went into Woodley Park to to sit in on a class taught by - Improv for Stand-up Comics . We knew pretty much everyone there and got a lot of insight into improv and had a lot of fun.
We also learned that can be amused for hours with a stopwatch. If he ever gets out of control on an airplane or something I will remember to have a stopwatch with me with which he can entertain himself endlessly.
The Bureau meeting was a scheduling/sketch/improv meeting as usual.
Claire did offer me a good quote:
Claire: I saw about you in the Diamondback today. It was very mean.
Andy: Well, yeah, but he basically called me the downfall of the democratic process in America.
It s quite an accomplishment. I m a little proud of myself.
Claire: Oh, Andy.
You re the new communism!
I love Claire.

Let s address things in order.
This is probably the best Staff Editorial I ve read in the Diamondback, so congratulations to Sing. Good luck to Emma.
It s finally apparent to the university at large what I have known for a while - Chris Biggs is Cosmo s Karl Rove. Chris writes the funny stuff and feeds figurehead Cosmo the ideas. Chris Biggs is a funny man and a good man.
I can t say the same for Cosmo.
He can t decide between advocating the duty to vote or trying to be one of the cool kids and blow it off. Nothing new here either.
Someone who has a tie to one of the candidates but doesn t want to create backlash so doesn t name their affiliation. Happens every day.
While the author obviously doesn t understand the political process, and perhaps not even English, as I spelled out exactly what he advocates in my column today and last night at the debates, it s a little flattering to be the focus of wasted ink like that. Thanks, Scott Kaptur: I m an America-hater.
Today the Diamondback has their endorsement (Emma Simson), the candidate guest columns, an article by Ben Snakey/Farva/Paul Mara McIlwain that demonstrates his complete and utter ignorance towards all things not related to amassing porn on his computer, a letter to the editor that offers nothing substantial, and this [ ] First, why has no one said anything about last week? Seven batters were hit by pitches, six of them were Nationals, and the two people who get suspended are Frank Robinson and Felix Rodriguez. Now I am completely understanding of the mandatory suspension when warnings have been issued, but it doesn t occur to Bob Watson that maybe - maybe - when Pedro hits Jose Guillen twice in one game he should maybe get a consequence?
When Nick Johnson is hit two innings after he hits a home run, the opposing pitcher is not punished. Yet Robinson, Rodriguez, and Guillen all faced fines as well as the two suspensions.
Oh well, the BSU debates were today and that s probably why I am not in the best mood.
In the past, the BSU debates were my favorite part of the election process. They were an opportunity for me to talk with a group of students that I don t usually get to talk to, to have some fun in a friendly environment, and to hear about issues that generally don t get included in the other debates.
Tonight sucked.
It s clear that Hank Rawlerson was a big reason the previous two debates were such successes, because the moderator tonight was horrible. It was such a hostile environment this year and that made it much more confrontational and less enjoyable. Between attacks from the moderator herself, loaded questions aimed at specific candidates, and an aggressive overtone by audience questioners, it reminded me of the shit I don t like about the SGA - the self-importance, the egoism, and the division and confrontational attitudes.
Matt Stern actually politely asked the moderator to remain impartial because she was simply berating certain candidates and not others. A true American hero, Matt Stern.
It was probably this series of events that led me to write my guest column for the Diamondback in such a manner.
While certain people were impressed by the level of sincerity, others will inevitably say But it s not funny. No, it s not. If you are looking for something funny tonight, read from The Onion and laugh amiably.
If you want to see the tripe I wrote, keep reading.
