JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Oprah Winfrey opened a school today for disadvantaged girls, fulfilling a promise she made to former president Nelson Mandela six years ago and giving more than 150 students a chance for a better future. I wanted to give this opportunity to girls who had a light so bright that not even poverty could dim that light, Ms. Winfrey said at a news conference.
Mr. Mandela was among the guests at the opening of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in the small town of Henley-on-Klip, south of Johannesburg.

LONDON, England - One of Britain s most talked-of celebrity couples may have tied the knot in a candlelit Buddhist ceremony as their friends cheered them on, newspapers reported today.
Supermodel Kate Moss and Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty held the ceremony on New Year s Day in the Thai resort of Phuket, The Sun and the Daily Mirror reported. Neither newspaper provided sources for the information, but the Mirror quoted an unnamed friend of Ms.
