GEORGE, South Africa mdash; Cadillac announced on Tuesday that it will sell the , the and the here starting in early 2007 as the first part of a larger offensive designed to serve as a launching pad to the rest of the continent.
As part of the Cadillac expansion plan, GM said it will put together a network of retailers in major South African cities including Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
"South Africa is one of the fastest-growing automobile markets in the world, and with our distinct portfolio of luxury vehicles, Cadillac is ready to further its expansion on the African continent," said James Vurpillat, Cadillac director of international marketing and brand development.
Cadillac said through the first half of 2006 its sales outside the U.S. grew 13 percent compared with year-ago levels.
In China, where the brand was introduced two years ago, sales were up 93 percent in the same period.
