December 18, 2006 - The soundtrack for the Samuel L. Jackson starring/Craig Brewer (Hustle Flow) written/directed film, Black Snake Moan, will be hitting stores on January 30th, 2007. Music from the film as crafted by the likes of Jackson himself, R.
L. Burnside, The Black Keys, The North Mississippi Allstars, Jessie Mae Hemphill, John Doe, Outrageous Cherry, Bobby Rush, and Precious Bryant The film is centered in Memphis, thus requiring a rich musical soundtrack. Jackson, who portrays a blues musician in the film actually took guitar lessons for the role.
Jackson was paired with such musicians as Alvin Youngblood Hart, Kenny Brown, Big Jack Johnson, and Jason Freeman, and they re-worked several blues classics such as "Stack-O-Lee" and "Black Snake Moan." Jackson also delivers his own version of the R.L.
Burnside classics "Just Like A Bird Without A Feather" and "Alice Mae." The 17-track album is being released a full month before the national theatrical release of the film, something of a rarity considering that most soundtracks either come out the week of the film's release or sometime afterwards.
