Paul McCartney s lawyers said this week that he will vigorously defend himself against allegations that he physically abused his estranged wife, Heather Mills McCartney.
Britain s Daily Mail newspaper Wednesday reported details of an alleged court document filed by Mills McCartney containing accounts of mistreatment and drug use during the couple s four-year marriage.
The rocker, 64, and anti-land mine campaigner, 38, announced their separation in May and have begun divorce proceedings in an increasingly acrimonious split.

They have a daughter, Beatrice, 3.
The newspaper did not reveal how it had acquired the court document alleging that McCartney attacked his wife with a broken wine glass, stabbing her arm and causing profuse bleeding. It also claims that he used illegal drugs and drank to excess.


Reality TV star Anna Nicole Smith attended the funeral of her son Thursday, six weeks after he mysteriously died while visiting her in a Bahamas hospital.
A gold-colored hearse brought the body of Daniel Smith, 20, to the cemetery, followed by three white limousines. The mahogany casket was whisked inside a large green tent for the service.

Wailing and screaming was heard from inside the tent.
The former Playboy playmate, 38, who gave birth to a daughter three days before Daniel died Sept. 10 at her bedside, attended the service, said Loretta Butler-Turner, director of the funeral home hired by the family.


ABC s Bob Woodruff is working on a prime-time special and, with his wife, a book about his painstaking recovery since being seriously hurt by a roadside bomb in Iraq in January, the network said on Thursday.
The ABC News special, expected to be Woodruff s first on-camera appearance since his injuries, is planned for this spring. He will interview eyewitnesses and the medical team that saved his life Jan.

Backing away from a confrontation with religious groups, NBC said Thursday it has decided not to show pictures of Madonna mounting a Crucifix when it airs a concert special with the pop star next month.
The concert is to air Nov. 22.

During the provocative part of her concert, Madonna is shown on a mirrored cross wearing a crown of thorns. She has explained that it was meant to illustrate a theme of confession.
NBC will still show a performance of Live to Tell, but will use different camera angles so that Madonna isn t seen until she gets off the cross, the network said.

Haley Joel Osment pleaded no contest Thursday to misdemeanor drunken driving and drug possession charges resulting from a July accident in which he crashed his car into a mailbox in California.
Judge John Doyle sentenced Osment, 18, to three years probation and ordered him to spend 60 hours in an alcohol rehab and education program, as well as attend at least 26 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings over a six-month period.

Osment, who didn t attend the court hearing, also must pay $1,500 in fines.
