"At that point in time, we woke up, even though the research says that these are the songs people want to listen to," he said.

And yet, they are still limited to what songs they can play. Johnson explains, "The first time you hear a song it takes several listens to like it, and we don't rotate songs fast enough to get that variety .

.. it's hard for us to do that sort of thing.

"

If you are on the verge of considering a cross over to, dare I say, hip-hop music, take heart.

Tea Leaf Green's album "Rock 'n' Roll Band" brings back the old morals of rock bands like Eric Clapton or Neil Young. The San Francisco band doesn't integrate modern electronic sounds into their music, but rather they soak it with piano solos, Bob Dylan-like vocals, and instruments in the raw with no extreme electronic manipulation other than an amp.

And the advantage of this classic rock is that you probably haven't heard these songs 30 times. You could call it an oximoron: It is new-classic rock.

Tea Leaf Green will be playing Jan.

19 and 20 at the Crystal Bay Club at North Shore Lake Tahoe, in Crystal Bay, Nev., and Feb. 18 at Grand Sierra Theatre in Reno, Nev.

Tickets are 17 advance and 20 at the door. Call (775) 833-6333 for more information. Or visit the band's Web site .
