Belly-dancing Latin songstress to perform in Spanish.
Christopher Bridges and Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, better known as Ludacris and Shakira, have been added to the list of performers at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Shakira, who famously belly-danced her way through "Objection (Tango)" at the 2002 VMAs, will make history in Miami, becoming the first artist to sing in Spanish on the awards show.The Colombian singer's "La Tortura," which is nominated in the Best Female Video and Best Dance Video categories, and Daddy Yankee's "Gasolina" (in the MTV2 category) are the first all-Spanish videos to be nominated for VMAs (see ). Meanwhile, Ludacris, who performed on the roof of his tour bus outside of the 2002 VMAs, is nominated in the Best Rap Video and Best Special Effects categories for "Number One Spot." Ludacris and Shakira join a list of previously announced performers that includes Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, Green Day, Mariah Carey and the Killers (see ).
Also announced Monday (August 8) is the first batch of presenters, which includes nominees Usher (Best Male Video for "Caught Up" and Best R B Video for "My Boo"), Snoop Dogg (Video of the Year and Best Hip-Hop Video for "Drop It Like It's Hot") and Lindsay Lohan (Best Pop Video for "Rumors"), as well as Joss Stone, Jessica Alba, Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst and Jeremy Piven. P. Diddy is hosting the show.
