A Miami Township, Clermont County, couple was anxiously awaiting word Sunday night from their daughter in Hawaii, fearing she might have been injured in the earthquake that shook the state.
Lisa Churchey was talking to her daughter, Katie, 24, shortly after 1 p.m.

Cincinnati time when the phone went dead.
Katie Churchey lives outside Kailua on the island of Oahu. She graduated from Milford High School in 2000 and Miami University in 2004.

The quake, centered on the big island of Hawaii, struck at 1:07 p.m. Cincinnati time.

It was four minutes later when they called their daughter when the phone went dead.
"The only thing she could tell us before she got cut off was there was a shock and then an immediate aftershock," Allen Churchey said.
The Churcheys had called their daughter to wake her up for Sunday's Bengals game.

Hawaii is six hours behind Ohio.
"We always call her on Sundays. She likes to get up and watch the games," Allen Churchey said.

Power was out all over the state, and the Churcheys later were unable to reach their daughter.
"She lives in an area where there's a steep mountainside right above her. That kind of concerns us.

And her apartment is 75 yards from the beach. That's another concern. You know how your mind works," Allen Churchey said.

Katie Churchey is the chief of staff for state Rep. Corinne Ching of Hawaii.
