"It's a Wonderful Life" isn't so "wonderful" when you watch it on TV. It airs Sunday night on NBC and watching the two-hour-plus movie in the comfort of your own home means subjecting yourself to almost an hour of excruciating commercials.
Tonight, though, the Frank Capra Christmas classic begins screening at the IFC Center, 323 Sixth Ave.

, NYC.
Gone are the commercials and in their place are, well, nothing. Audiences get the chance to watch the film the way Capra intended, with an audience and on the big screen.

Jimmy Stewart is George Bailey, a down-on-his-luck resident of Bedford Falls, and he has some serious money problems this holiday season. Just before George attempts to end his life, his guardian angel Clarence shows up and reveals what life would've been like had George never been born. In doing so, the true meaning of Christmas is revealed.

As crazy as it seems now, "It's a Wonderful Life" didn't win any Oscars, although it was nominated for five. But time has told a different story. Read any articles about 1946 Best Picture winner "The Best Years of Our Lives" this holiday season?
