The Tehachapi Community Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. David Newby, will commence its ninth season of free classical music on Sunday, November 5th, 4:00 p.m.
, at Country Oaks Baptist Church. The concert will feature pianist Shun-Lin ( ldquo;Sam rdquo;) Chou in a performance of Mozart rsquo;s ldquo;Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major rdquo; and will take advantage of the church rsquo;s Yamaha concert grand piano.
Chou came to the United States from Taiwan when he was nine, several years after he began studying piano. ldquo; The only music teacher in my hometown of 100,000 taught piano. If he taught cello, I rsquo;d be a different man today.
rdquo; His original ambition was to be a physician, but he switched to music with only two years of study to go, earning advanced degrees from the University of Michigan and from the Eastman School, where he also earned a Performer rsquo;s Certificate.
