News for Tuesday, December 26th, 2006 The Bruce Grey Catholic School Board has a new tool to use in student retention -- and who better to promote a school to students than students.
That s the concept behind two 10 minute marketing videos that are being distributed to grade eight classrooms across the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board.
Director of Education Pat Cureton says the videos focus on the highlights of both Owen Sound s St.
Mary s and Walkerton s Sacred Heart High School from a students perspective.
Students promote their schools by boasting about their sports teams, drama and art classes, music and band clubs as well as co-op opportunities.
Director of Education Pat Cureton says the two separate videos really capture the heart and souls of both high schools.
He believes this fresh approach will also capture the attention of grade eight students.
The goal is to ensure that students don t leave the Catholic School Board following grade eight graduation.
The School Board s current grade eight to grade nine retention rate is 85 percent.
Cureton would like to see this rise to 100 percent.
He calls the 9 thousand dollar video cost a smart investment in students.
Because school funding is directly linked to student enrolment, he says the higher the enrolment the better the selection of programs and courses for students.
