AP Wire | 12/10/2006 | Split Rock to vie for slots parlor license

With two western Pennsylvania contenders for resort slot machine licenses no longer interested, Split Rock Resort and Country Club is once again planning to seek a license.
We're back in the hunt, Split Rock President and CEO Jack Kalins said.

We're definitely interested again.
Kalins said he had his lawyers stop working on the application shortly before the December 2005 deadline because he thought Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington and Seven Springs in Champion were sure to get the two available licenses.
But Seven Springs dropped out because the family that bought the resort in June is part owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Major League Baseball does not allow its owners to have ties to gambling.

Nemacolin Woodlands pulled out in November because resort officials thought some of the state's regulations were too stringent.
According to the Pocono Mountains Vacation Bureau, there are only three other resorts in the Poconos, besides Split Rock, that fit the state's criteria for a slots license: Fernwood Hotel and Resort in Bushkill, Caesars Cove Haven in Lakeville and Woodloch Pines Resort in Hawley. Officials from all three said they have no plans to offer gambling in the near future.

A spokesman for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said applications for resort slots licenses will not be taken until current applications are acted upon.
