Rock Dog Closes Doors

The quirky little hot dog place on The Drag quietly closed its doors on the day before Thanksgiving. Named as a 2005 "Best of Austin" by the Austin Chronicle, Rock Dog featured hot dogs both grilled and boiled and offered vegetarian options as well.
The restaurant was decorated with music memorabilia and U.

T. Longhorn pride items. The always cheerful owner greeted customers with a smile and casual conversation.

His vegetarian chili was tasty enough to fool even the most die hard carnivore and made a fantastic Frito Pie.
It's a shame that the fast food chains can flourish in the campus neighborhood, along with Starbucks and high priced boutique clothing but a locally owned alternative to the same old lunch choices can't stay afloat.
As for me, I'll miss my lunches and dinners at the eatery.

There'll be no more Queso Dogs, Buffalo Bleu Dogs or chili cheese tots and fries served up as fast as the beat on the classic rock piped through the building.
