Irving, TX (AHN) - Tony Romo may have been selected to play in the Pro Bowl but the vote for the game's quarterback position might have started too early. If the vote were taken on Monday after the Eagles stunned the Cowboys 23-7, Philadelphia quarterback Jeff Garcia probably would have stolen all of Romo's votes.
Garcia led a calculated Eagles attack by completing 15-of-23 passes for 238 yards including one for a touchdown.
Even more important, the win assures the team of a playoff spot and Philadelphia can actually win the NFC East by beating the Atlanta Falcons this coming Sunday.
The win over the Cowboys is the fourth in a row this year for Garcia and the Eagles and the games were against division rivals which has miraculously put the team in control of its own playoff destiny.
A winning streak like this sure did not look like something that would happen after Philadelphia's star quarterback Donovan McNabb was lost for the season after an injury weeks ago.
At one point, the team's record stood at 5-6 after Garcia lost his first game after replacing McNabb.
The Eagles have played excellent ball ever since and Monday's game was no different. Philadelphia dominated from the outset as the lethargic Cowboys team looked like it drank too much egg nog during this holiday season.
Philadelphia scored on its first possession with a 13-play, 89 yard drive that culminated with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Garcia to Matt Schobel. The Eagles defense then took matters in its own hands as it stopped Dallas' Marion Barber from scoring with three goal-line stops, the last of which was a 3-yard loss on fourth down.
Immediately after that, Garcia led a 12-play, 89 yard drive that ended with a David Akers field goal.
The rest of the game was uneventful as Philadelphia mostly stuck with the ground game and handed the ball off to Brian Westbrook who finished with 118 yards on 26 carries.
The Eagles did not have to do any more than that because Dallas' offense struggled all night. Romo looked lost in completing only 14-of-29 passes and he threw two interceptions.
One can not blame only Romo for the loss though. Terrell Owens scored a touchdown but his drop of a perfectly thrown deep pass by the quarterback in the second half destroyed any chance of the Cowboys' getting some momentum. Also, the team did not have much of a running game as its leading rusher only had 42 yards and the person accomplishing that was Dallas' quarterback, Romo.
Despite the loss, the Cowboys still have a chance of winning the NFC East. They need to beat the Lions next week and then hope the Eagles lose its game. No matter what happens though, Dallas will end up in the playoffs as it qualified for a berth last week.
