Guns N' Roses Set Fire to the Stage in L.A.
As symbolism goes, it's hard to think of anything more fitting than what transpired during 'November Rain,' at the band's hometown performance Tuesday night. The show, held at L.A.'s Gibson Ampitheatre, became the second-to-last night of the tour after frontman Axl Rose announced the band was scrapping the last two weeks of the tour to concentrate on finishing its long-anticipated album, 'Chinese Democracy.
'
As the pyrotechnics came flying down, the drums literally caught fire.
Depending on your perspective, the perfect metaphor was either when the drum kit sizzled behind the explosive perfomance, with Rose seated at the piano, or when he quipped afterward, "That's a first: The f***ing drums caught fire. I like that. We might just the drummer.
Blow him up."
There are many doubters out there, after the decade-plus wait for 'Chinese Democracy' and with Rose being the only remaining member from the days when Guns N' Roses ruled the world -- though original guitarist Izzy Stradlin joined the band for a few songs Tuesday night -- who would love nothing more than to relegate GN' R to where 'Spinal Tap' drummers dwell.
The reality is, though -- as evidenced by last night's two-hour-plus perfomance, particularly on fierce versions of 'Mr.
Brownstone,' a scintillating 'Nightrain' and the upcoming album's furiously paced title track -- that Rose, with his current version of the band, can still deliver a night of great rock 'n' roll. And, if the pop-rock sheen of 'Better,' the powerful ballad 'Madasgacar' and the -influenced 'The Blues' rendered live are any indication, 'Chinese Democracy' will be well worth the wait.
1.
It's the dawn of a new era in which rock music is making a gallant return. I'll have to say, Axl Rose is credited for pushing that, everyones been asleep for the past ten years.
2.
ALL THAT I HAVE TO SAY IS HELL YES! AND FOR THOSE WHO EVER DOUBTED THE MAN..
YOU KNOW WHERE YOU CAN STICK IT:) thats coming from the BIGGEST gnr fan EVER!!!
20 YEARS DIE HARD AND IT AINT ABOUT TO STOP (AND IM ONLY 23 YRS OLD;)!!!
3. Axl is the 8th wonder of the world! I mean he pulls so much crap, and can change moods faster then Clay Aiken runs away from girls.
I will admit I have given up, then taken it back so many times with him, that Im just sick and tired. He's so nondiscript and hush hush about the LP, that he makes statements, like 'this is the first time, we gave an actual date' blah blah blah. But then I see him at a show around 6am when he shows up, and after getting pissed off that I must take the next work day off, since I wouldn't get home until 7am.
He shows his amazing ability, to shock and awww us, and then he buys another 2 months worth of time, I'll wait for the LP. Lets face it, he is the greatest front man ever! His reality however is only comparable to Michael Jackson, and Tiny Tim.
He leaves alot for fans to get over, but he has always been amazing, and nomatter how pissed, Slash, Izzy,Matt or Duff are at him. NONE of them disagree that he's a stud on stage. But what can we as fans do?
If a guy hits his wife over, and over. She's the one that needs to leave, and it's the same with Axl. He gets us all pumped, then goes crazy and leaves, or doesnt show up, then makes stupid comments like it's the managments fault, it's not out.
Yet they next line says we must cancel these dates in order to ship it out. Well if it's managments fault then way wait till this past week to run in the studio and finish recording? Is anyone else aware that the Beatles have released more new material then Axl in the past 10 years?
He's what we want, but my final deadline is march! After that he's just a little midget with a big ego!!
4. Look, all, Axl Rose Rocked 18 years ago, and STILL Rocks ! I was determined to never go to any concert until I Saw GNR.
My husband was reluctant to even take me because Axl quit on him years back in Denver, and Metallica wound up playing the gig. BUT, I got to see Axl Rose on Halloween. He came out with his little devil horns, and just kicked ass.
I left there knowing and appreciating being alive, he woke me up. And I for one will wait as long as it takes for him to finish. PS.
Now that I have been to my first concert (I am 34 and waited since I was 16 to see Axl), I think I'll just need to wait until he comes back to Jacksonville, no one can live up to my expectations better.
6. ive not heard nor seen, gnr since the split.
but i have to say that axel blew a good thing, and i wonder if he has relised it by now.??
?slash and his new band seem to be making it,with out the whinner. so many other bands have tried this route with out alot of success.
guess we will see as march rolls around,.
7. The nice thing about the upcoming cd is.
...
IT JUST CANT GET UP AND LEAVE if its pissed ...
lol I dont care if Rod Stewart is or was gay...
HIS MUSIC ROCKS, JUST like AXLs, BUT Axle on a personal note is 100% Asshole 100% PERIOD, so many people pay good money for him just to walk off the stage because someone sneezed. here in Milwaukee he didnt show because they didt sell enough tickets..
.lol..
. so he didnt want to play in front of 4500 people..
.lol..
. go axle go..
..
8.
Gotta love the Axl, just gotta!!!
! GO GNR!!
!
9. That sucks stage was on fire.
Yes I will see Guns 'N' Roses live-in-concert in L.A. during thier next upcoming U.
S.tour .
10.
I really liked the 1980 blockbuster album by Ac/dc - Back in Black- and Motley crue can stil rock the house! If Van Halen could get lead singers to stop being little Whiners then they would rule the world!.
..As for GNR- the lame duck in a circus sideshow- thank Axl- the low life piece of sh*t that I wish I could have 5 minutes with so I can kick his Bitchy little Ass!
11. I have loved G N' R since I was 12. I waited till I was 22 to see him.
I was so amped I was finally going to get to see my idol, and then they never showed. I swore then and there I would never listen to any album with Axl ever again, but I gave in and I still love all G N' R albums, and I'll probably buy Chinese Democracy. I just won't admit it to my friends.
12. Axxhole had his 15 minutes of fame. Axxhole is a has-been.
It's just that nobody bothered to tell him. He doesn't rate being told..
...
And nobody gives a shit about a "new" album.
13. I went to the Cleveland show and I don't care what anyone says, the man has still GOT IT!
! I was worried he wasn't gonna show (he made us wait for a good while.) But I don't care if we waited 12 hours, he's Axl f*cking Rose for God sake!
!!!
He can leave you wait that long and BECAUSE he's Axl Rose!!!
The man can do whatever he wants. I've LOVED Axl Rose since I was 8 years old. And still do.
I would love for the old Guns n Roses to get back together (DREAM COME TRUE) but it might not happen. I f it doesn't it's cool cuz he has proved he can do it himself. He's awesome.
There actually aren't even words to describe him. LOVE HIM!!
!!!
!!!
!! GNR
14.
Oh dear, where to start. Axl Rose is simply amazing. I loved the old GN'R and I kinda wish it was still the original members, but whatever the new band is just as great.
And the stage on f---ing fire. Wooo. Can't get any hotter than that.
I love Axl Rose.
15. I LOVE AXL!
HE IS GORGEOUS! HE IS TALENTED! AND HE IS THE GREATEST FRONTMAN EVER!
I had the good fortune to see him in NYC, Las Vegas and Chicago! GNR RULES!
