Vikings cornerback Fred Smoot will miss Sunday's season finale with a after crashing his car in his native Mississippi. For Smoot, though, I can't help but think maybe the jaw is the least of his worries right now.
Smoot also had his "nearly totaled." Police say Smoot was at The Spot nightclub in Jackson, where he was showing off the car, which was so new he hadn't even gotten the tags for it yet.
After they left The Spot, Smoot was in the passenger seat while a friend drove the car into a guard rail. I wonder what that friendship is like now. Ordinarily, I think if you wreck a buddy's car you ought to offer to pay for the damage, but I'm guessing this friend can't really afford to replace a $400,000 car.
Police say no charges will be filed, but I've got to think Vikings coach Brad Childress, who says he hasn't seen Smoot since the incident, is not going to take too kindly to this. Childress was charged with the task of cleaning up the Vikings' public image in large part because of the "sex boat" party that Smoot organized. This doesn't rank with that incident, but it doesn't make Smoot look too good, either.

g., returned INT for TD in recent GB game). However, last year,he had a big mouth, got involved in the "boat " scandal, broke his collarbone, lost his starting job upon return from injury.
This year,Smoot has been more low keyed, bulked up,missed 1 game due to death in family, lost his starting job to a rookie. Now his jaw is broken due to a non-football injury. This was a car accident although Smoot wasn't driving (allegedly), the circumstances sound suspicious, to say the least.
Although I was glad when the Vikes originally signed him as a FA, there is no way he compares with Antoine Winfield (the Vikes' other FA CB), no way he is worth 5 mil.+ per yr., no way he'll be with the Vikes next yr.
I doubt Smoot will make 1/2 this $ in 2007.For teh Vikes, Smoot is now mute, soon to be moot.
