TEENAGE prospect Iain Bowie pressed his case for a step-up to the big time by claiming three goals in last night's ice hockey challenge at Murrayfield.
However, the Kirkcaldy-based teenager, who also helped set-up another goal, was not the only rising star to shine for Edinburgh Capitals.
Great Britain youth internationalist Iain Beattie claimed two goals and four assists and Lewis Glasgow a goal and two assists in the 15-4 win over Scottish National League outfit Dundee Texol Stars.
Young netminder Gary Russell also pressed his case with a solid display during part of the game.
Sadly, Dundee travelled south with an under-strength line-up, but the Tayside team have a chance for revenge over the Elite League outfit when the pair square-up for the second-leg of a challenge match on Tayside tomorrow (6.30pm).
Capitals intend to ice new signing Kyle Horne who watched rinkside last night but Capitals coach Scott Neil said: "The positive to take out of the challenge was the performance of the young players.
"Beattie, Bowie, Russell and Glasgow, plus Ross Dalgleish, all showed they have potential."
Capitals got the jump on the opposition quickly and were 2-0 ahead after 121 seconds before winning the first period 6-1, the second 6-2 and the third 3-1.
Despite that, Stars back-up netminder John Nicol performed well in the face of a barrage of shots.
Vince Connon, who has just turned 15, showed up well and Great Britain youth internationalist Willie Nicolson netted a fine goal to underline his growing potential.
The home side were quicker to the lose puck and always had options but Stars coach Roger Hunt said: "Our guys will learn from this.
"Thursday will be different as we'll have our impact players back and we'll ice new signing Paddy Lochi.
"The guys now see what they have to do to improve their fitness and their overall technical skills and we're up for the challenge on our home ice.
