But the part of the rumored plan that is sure to draw plenty of ire from fans and purists everywhere involves adding two doors to the Mustang and selling it as both a sedan and a wagon. If history is any indication, however, most of those people will quickly forget about any supposed transgressions if the product is good.

Ford Australia is set to play a central role in developing the four-door Mustang and has been charged with developing the platform for the vehicle, which is set to come out in 2011 along with a new generation of the two-door.

A stretched version of this new rear-drive platform could also theoretically underpin a production version of the just-announced Lincoln concept set to appear at next month's Detroit Auto Show.

Pshhh. Poor Ford. I still laugh at that commercial that has the red 'Stang drifting all over the place and spinning it's tires.

The whole rear section of the car shudders like crazy and that independent rear suspension...

wow. Pogo-stick-esque. Someone needs to give them a poke and tell them that they need to hire me as their wheel guru.

..they are notorious for jacking up the wheel backspacing/offsets.

Boooooo Ford! 2. I guess when you're forced to hock everything you own to raise operational cash, things like this occur.
