Published: Wednesday, December 20, 2006 Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent has confirmed he will attend the opening screening of Sarah Polley's Away From Her at the 13th Victoria Independent Film and Video Festival.
Because of a scheduling conflict, Polley has had to cancel her scheduled appearance, however.
Pinsent said he has always wanted an excuse to visit Victoria again.

"Being invited to Victoria brings me double pleasure," said Pinsent, who co-stars with Julie Christie in Polley's tale of love and devotion based on a story by Alice Munro.
"Not only will I be in one of my dream cities I love to go to, but to be there at this wonderful festival drawing attention to an important film will be one of those special moments."
Festival director Kathy Kay also confirmed yesterday that Monkey Warfare, B.

C. filmmaker Reg Harkema's political comedy-drama about a B.C.

hipster (Nadia Litz) who has a dramatic impact on two Toronto dumpster-divers (Don McKellar and Tracy Wright), has been acquired.
Both Away From Her and Monkey Warfare were on the list of this year's top 10 Canadian films announced last week by the Toronto International Film Festival.
Other additions include the rockumentary Glastonbury, about the famous English music festival; and Milarepa, Bhutan filmmaker Neten Chokling's drama relating the story of the 12th-century Buddhist saint.

More than 150 films will be featured at four downtown venues at the 10-day festival, which begins Feb. 2. For more information visit www.
