The hour-long gathering marked the former mayor's 13th visit to Hale House, a nonprofit organization that provides 24-hour residential care, childcare and family stabilization programs. About a dozen children aged five and younger gathered around the 62-year-old at the Mother Hale Learning Center Saturday morning as he read from an edition of Clement C. Moore's "A Visit from St.

Nicholas." The poem starts with the well-known lines: "'Twas the night before Christmas/And all through the house/Not a creature was stirring/Not even a mouse." Giuliani, who has set up a Web site and recently held his first fundraiser for the presidential exploratory committee he created last month, interacted with the children as he read, said Hale House spokesman Pat Smith.

None of the youngsters asked about his presidential aspirations.
