I am accepting submissions for a comp entitled "Sloppy Seconds".
Submissions must be exactly one second in length.
They may be found sound, original compositions, previously released or unreleased.. anything.
They are all being strung together into a massive, A.D.D.
inducing, pummeling, roller coaster ride of an audio experience.
What's in a second? A second is a long time.
You can get 4 or 5 recognizable ideas across in a second. An average pop song only has 3 or 4 distinct components, at most, so you could easily reduce an entire pop song into a second. The universe was created in less than a second.
So what's your excuse?
My goal is to fill an 80 minute CD or CDr in this way. At 60 artists a minute, that would be 4800 separate submissions, with a track marker every minute.
I know, I'm aiming for the sky, and it's probably a totally unrealistic goal. You can help by passing the website around to anyone you think might be interested. Any style of music will be accepted.
When I deem it's "done", submissions will no longer be accepted and it'll be released in whatever form it takes. There is no timeline for this process, but I suspect it will take awhile.

Email your track, wav files preferred, to obscurica@gmail.com.

Include your artist name and the name of your track.
3. Tracks must be one second in length, no more no less.
4. One track per artist, please. (Side projects are OK and encouraged, if you want to send more than one track.

No artist CD's will be distributed. I'm sure you understand why, just too many of them. Instead, I'll post it as mp3's at archive.
org or something. We'll see when the time comes closer.
Update #1: I'm also accepting graphic files, small ones, to be used in the cover art.
Send a small jpg along with your track if you wish.
Update #2: LESS DRONE PLEASE! I'm getting some really good submissions, and I have to say, the ones I feel are most successful are the ones that convey more than one idea per track.
Don't limit yourself to a single sound for this comp...

Update #3: Everyone is wondering why their track isn't showing up in the list fast enough, or in order. Due to popular demand (yay!
) I'm getting a SHITLOAD of tracks all once. I've therefore dispensed with the notion that I can keep up with a strict order of first-come, first-served, and it's now descended into the chaos of me randomly picking tracks from a folder and editing them as I go. Don't worry, if I've responded, I got your track, and it will be included.
Update #4: I'm finding that fewer than half the tracks are actually a second in length. The reason they are all to be exactly a second in length is so that individual tracks can be found by timing. If they are not exactly a second in length, I will apply one or more of the following processes to make them fit: time expand, time condense, edit, crop, truncate, fold, spindle and mutilate.
This may change the sound or nature of your finished track, so you've been warned.
Update #5: Possibly the best track so far, and probably the funniest. In one second, this artist tells a story.
