Hey, have you had a chance to check out the Punk Rods? They're a four man horror rock outfit from Cleveland that counts The Misfits (natch), Murderdolls and even Benny Goodman among their influences. They're a cool bunch of guys - anybody that takes their band name from an obscure episode of "The Munsters" has to be - so give them a listen.
My name is Rob and I play bass in the band.
The members of the band are as follows: myself on bass, David on drums, "Evil" Ed on guitar and E.C.
on vocals.
David, Ed and myself had a brief but fun experience in another horror rock band called The Glampyres. We did a handful of shows and recorded a four-song demo.
We were really unhappy with our singer's vocals tracks once we heard the playback, and it served to reinforce our decision that he wasn't cutting it as a frontman. The three of us decided to put the band on a hiatus until we could figure out our next move. A few months later, David and I were attending a Michale Graves performance and we were impressed by the vocalist for one of the opening bands, Creepshow 1977.
I asked David, "What would you think about asking this guy to do vocals for us?" We contacted him and gave him a copy of the demo we had cut with the old singer and asked if he thought he could do something with us. He was really into the music and said he definitely was up for working with us.
A short time later, the four of us got together and The Punk Rods was born.
It's a reference to "Hot Rod Herman", and episode of The Munsters TV show. Herman wrote "The Punk Rods" on the back of his black leather jacket.
David, Ed and I have been playing together for about two years, and E.C. has been with us for almost a year now.
We're actually kind of dispersed across a good portion of the state, but we consider
Horror rock. The band has shifted it's direction slightly during it's lifetime, but we'll never stray from the horror rock tag.
Well, none of us would be here if it weren't for The Misfits, so we have to cite them firstly. The Murderdolls, Michale Graves and Gotham Road, Rob Zombie, even a few from outside the genre directly like S.O.
D., Motley Crue, Nekromantix and the late, great Benny Goodman.
Thus far, just the three-song demo, "The Panic Broadcast".
We are quickly compiling enough material to do a full-length though.
That's actually a hard one to answer because of the different aspects of our sound. I can tell you that, as far as our released material goes, "Surf Zombies" is the most popular.
Lots of fun. We feel that a show should be a good time and a release, so we encourage sing-alongs, positive pit activity and general mayhem.
Whenever we find a bill that we think we'll go over with the crowd.
Most acts in this scene tour mainly in the fall and winter, so that's when most of our shows are for now.
Well, the Pirate's Cove in
