LONDON, England (AP) -- Queen Elizabeth II canceled plans to attend the races at Newmarket on Friday, as she pared back her schedule to rest a strained back muscle.
Buckingham Palace said, however, that the monarch would still attend a luncheon in honor of her 80th birthday year at the Jockey Club in Newmarket, 70 miles (110 kilometers) northeast of London.
A day earlier, the queen pulled out of an appearance at the formal opening of Emirates Stadium, the home ground of Arsenal soccer club.

The queen reportedly suffered the injury toward the end of her annual stay at Balmoral Castle in Scotland during the summer.
Doctors advised her to reduce her workload ..

. and will review her progress on a daily basis, Buckingham Palace said Thursday.
