With tremendous delight and great pride of a sustained connection over the years with this stalwart family, we announced today that Ceddy Munnings is back in a big way and about to set off a sports/entertainment explosion down at Nirvana Beach, out on the far-West Bay strip.
Those who know of the man would have a good understanding of the kind of grand fanfare that is about to happen. Those unfamiliar with the business impresario will soon see as he transforms the sports/entertainment landscape in this country.
Nirvana Beach will now be the home of all of the First Class Promotions shows sponsored by the Bahamas Boxing Commission. Last month a pilot project promotion was staged on the site and the reviews were all very good. Our very own CABOFE super middleweight champion Jermain Mackey returned to the win column with a resounding sixth round technical knockout of Jamaican Anthony Osbourne.
The atmosphere was quite compelling and promoter Michelle Minus was told that while the environment was quite different, it was indeed comfortable and attractive to patrons. An indication of this was the 300-plus crowd that ventured out on the somewhat windy evening.
Munnings said the show was just a small taste of what is to come.
"When boxing fans come back out for the next show they will not believe the difference. It will be like nothing they have ever experienced. This will truly be a mecca for boxing and the other ring sports we have in mind.
We will be bringing in fighters from Canada, Jamaica and all over to give our fans a touch of that international flavour constantly right here in their own backyard," said Munnings.
Backyard or more precisely, beach would be the appropriate word to depict the scenario.
Yes, a new era has dawned.
Munnings says wrestling and kick boxing matches will be added to the straight boxing shows. A great big tent will be erected over the ring and surrounding area. Comfortable bleaches will be put in place and in short a "most enjoyable" sporting locale will be afforded patrons.
The tented beach arena will provide that cozy ballroom effect and also the tranquility that a beach environment offers. Patrons can also expect to be catered to in grand style, of a fashion synonymous with the old Ceddy Munnings and his dashing Mighty Makers.
The Bahamas Boxing Commission, headed by Dr.
Norman Gay, has already endorsed the venue and plans to enter into an agreement with Munnings to hold all of its clinics for referee, judges and other boxing personnel, as well as awards presentations at the Nirvana Beach complex.
Munnings also intends to expand his sports empire to include a variety of water events, the full details of which are still being worked out.
Nirvana Beach has quietly evolved into a sports/entertainment bonanza venue.
center stage Ceddy!
