MEDFORD, Ore., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- An Oregon man is pressing his claim that he wrote not one but all of the songs on Green Day s Grammy-winning "American Idiot" album.
Paul McPike, 32, Medford, filed a lawsuit in federal court last week alleging that he composed the lyrics and the music for "American Idiot" in 1992 -- more than 10 years before it became a best-seller and won the Grammy for best album in 2005.
A federal magistrate recommended dismissing the case, the Medford Mail Tribune reported, but left the door open for a re-filing of the case.
McPike is representing himself and told the newspaper he planned to resubmit the case after further research of copyright law.
McPike contends he sang all of the "American Idiot" tunes in 1992 for his classmates at a California alternative high school.
