Well the Democrats picked their new Speaker of the House. Thankfully moderate democrats won out over the extreme lefty candidate Murtha backed by even more leftist Pelosi. While I (a Republican) do think the Republicans deserved to get the kick in the pants they got in the elections, I completely oppose the extreme left wing members of the Democratic party who misunderstood the election to mean everything the US has done had to be reverse immediately.
Pelosi still has a powerful base as she is now the first female House Speaker but it s clear the Democrats in the House are not going to be in lock-step with her. Political extremism and policy is exactly what this country does not need. Already I hear calls for withdrawing from Iraq within four months as if that will somehow end our troubles with terrorism and the rise of the jihadist movement.
Hence, I am pleased that the more reasonable Democrats backed Steny Hoyer as Majority Leader.
