A man who was stabbed after breaking into a mansion belonging to celebrity fitness trainer Gunnar Peterson was charged Monday with felony assault.
Nicholas Marino, 23, of Newport Beach, made his first court appearance but did not enter a plea for one count of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury. He faces up to four years in state prison if convicted.
A Superior Court judge ordered Marino held on $150,000 bail and scheduled his arraignment for Jan. 19.
Authorities said Marino was stabbed Dec.
6 during a struggle with a private security guard inside Peterson's home. Marino was hospitalized and treated for his injuries, and was arrested for investigation of residential burglary, making criminal threats and stalking.
Peterson and his estranged wife have obtained restraining orders that allege that Marino has been stalking her, according to the celebrity Web site TMZ.
com.
Peterson was not home at the time of the break-in. The fitness guru has trained stars including Jennifer Lopez, Nick Lachey and Brooke Burke.
