Rock Star Supernova is something of a disjointed effort. The kickoff song for the album is a catchy pop song that fits into the current market of bubble gum inspired rock acts. I actually enjoy this song but do miss Robin Zander, oh wait this isn t Cheap Trick!

Yeah, this will happen a few times during the album. If Tommy Bolin was around he would be screaming hey your ripping me off a few times for sure. Speaking of being ripped off.

..Um Marc Bolan also should receive a few bucks for his catalog being rapped and pillaged.

Lukas who s gonna take a beating by the major critics for his weak ass vocals all through this album isn t really that bad. But my personal choice for the band being Toby Rand would have made these songs 10X better. Toby s good time, drink beer, party attitude would have given energy to the songs.

Lukas doesn t have that ability. He can t take a weak song (which many are here) and deliver it with such panache that it works out positively.
I have to admit the best song on the album is the first single Its All Love .

The song works on every level. Tommy Lee s solo efforts reflect big in this song as it could have been a left over from the last albums session.
Butch Walker is the obvious star here.

His production abeit muddy at times does a good job of making the best out of what he was working with...

I admit I was more excited about Butch being a part of the project than I was with any of the main three members. Butch s song writing is all over this record and I wouldn t be surprised to find out the songs basic ideas all came from him.
Gilby s playing is nothing more or less than what you ve heard from his solo albums over the past 10 years.

I do enjoy Gilby s solo albums overall but his singing is always a weak point. Lukas does sing better on this album than Gilby or Tommy so that is a bonus.
If there is to be another Rockstar Supernova connection I can only hope that Butch, Gilby Toby put a new band together.

That would be truly something special as all the talent from the show comes from those three. Tommy Lee s a good drummer but he s under used in this genre. Jason Newstadt was a shocking surprise from the get go.

He was by far the most intelligent, well spoken most articulate on the show. He was always fair even when he wanted to shred people for bad performances. His playing on the album is again good studio musician playing but he s under used as well.

That man has talent to burn.
Rock Star Supernova is ok but will be nothing more than a forgotten entity by the time next years show is underway.
