Last week, was ready to call the Dixie Chicks documentary Shut Up and Sing a bomb. took some exception to that assessment. Well, the weekend box offices are out over at Box Office Mojo and it is probably a little clearer now.
The graph below shows the box office for the first two weeks of release. Note the declining trend. That was with a total of 11 theaters showing the film.
This week they expanded to 71 screens. But the per screen total dropped to just $2,281 for a weekend box office of $162,000. So although the movie was shown on more than six times as many screens, the box office revenue rose by only 122%.
Theater owners can read numbers. This one is not bringing people in. I think we can call it a bomb now.
