I was a little alarmed when I tried to upload one of my own tracks to my myspace player and got a "File Blocked. Copyright Asserted" error. I tried re-uploading several times, changing the filename, id3, etc.
but no dice. So I did what I do everytime I panic..
.google. It seems that Universal has came up with a new way of making more revenue than it already has, by suing the shit out of everyone.
Universal was recently sued by Myspace, forcing myspace to have this new ridiculous filter of uploading songs. It uses the database over at gracenote.com, if any word out of the file you upload brings up a query, it is basically fucked.
I experimented with uploading different files and to my surprise, Tom Waits made the cut and even a Daft Punk bootleg I did made the cut as well. How's that for an effective system? Let's set up this copyright filter that filters all the independent artists but allows everything that IS supposed to be filtered.
Another interesting aspect of this is that even if I owned copyrights to my own track and was on gracenote.com because of whatever release, I still wouldn't be able to upload my own track onto myspace without it being blocked.
Another ridiculous case by Universal is when they sued Microsoft.
Apparently, Universal won the case and is now entitled to profit share from every Zune mp3 player sold. I congratulate you Universal as you now have a great new way of making income.

Going through a hard drive of old music videos and performances, I was left to think "What the fuck happened?
" How and why has live performances gone down the shithole? Bands from the past shot these videos in one take with an amazing live sound. Some bands even fucking did an elaborate choreographed dance while playing live!
(See Heatwave). In my quest to bring you the best possible blog experience I've decided to incorporate a classic video in each (or almost each) post. And this wouldn't be possible without the lovely youtube.
com, which was sued by Universal as well!
The video I'm posting today is a live video of Vanilla Fudge performing their hit single You Keep Me Hanging On. Aside from every member in this band being a complete character and having tremendous stage presence, the sound is on point.
My personal favorite is the drummer in the beginning, when he's stopping the crash/ride.
Music:
Ripgroove, a classic track from '97 by Double 99 , gets a reworking by for an '06 version. Tim stays true to the songs key elements for the most part, just mostly emphasizing on long breaks. Ofcourse it's always hard to top a good classic but it's quite hard to dislike this remix.
Out on .
