Opera 9.1: Fraud protection

Johan Borg has posted a lengthy blog post on the Opera Desktop Team's site about an upcoming feature for the next Opera release, 9.1.

Just like Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2 it will introduce fraud protection. But is it really the same? Borg says no, Opera 9.

1 will actively check if the visited site matches a site in the remote database (privacy concerns: only necessary information is transmitted), and is cached locally to reduce the amount of requests.
Unlike Firefox 2 you won't need to activate real-time protection, and depend on a 3rd party like Google, nor will it make use of Microsoft's database. Instead Opera decided to create their own database out of privacy concerns of their users and allows them to easily activate and deactive the feature to send no information at all.
