To ensure that all women in the area know how vital diligent breast health diagnosis is, the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Breast Center is hosting its annual open house on National Mammography Day, October 20. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, with the 3rd Friday of October set aside (since 1993) as National Mammography Day, as a way to educate the public about the necessity of breast health awareness and diligence.
The STPH Breast Center has contributed to the community by offering breast education on this day for the past 6 years with the exception of 2005 due to Katrina. The Breast Center had their first Open House in 2001. Each year the program has been expanded to the interest of women's issues such as American Cancer Society, Mary Bird Perkins, looking good and feeling better (wigs and make up after cancer treatments), lymphedema education (how to prevent and how to treat), natural hormone therapy information, tattooing of the breast after breast reconstruction, support group information, mammography film demonstration, free bone density Achilles screening, massage therapy for relaxation (there will be a couple of vendors available for free massages) proper shoe fitting, bra fitting, Council on Aging (both St.
Tammany and Jefferson Parish), parenting information, etc...
only to mention a few of the many topics of women's issues offered by vendors. The Breast Center makes this event a fun and relaxing time, by offering not only a wide scope of interesting groups to answer questions and educate, but there are also gifts and prizes. This is also a good time to meet our new radiologists Drs.
Daniel Rupley and William Welles, breast specialists. The Brest Center is located at 201 St. Ann Dr.
, Mandeville. The event will run from 8 a.m.
to 4 p.m.
