garage rock

SO last night I got home at around 10:00 pm and was stone cold passed out within half an hour. It's odd because I tend to wake up around 8:30am lately and really can't seem to fall asleep, (yes this does tend to be increased if I drink booze and have a fair amount of caffeine in my system. But really hasn't been a deciding factor).

Anyway I woke up around 5am and saw that called to wish me a happy birthday, she sounded quite happy in her far away land. It's nice to be thought of because I am horrible with birthdays and tend to not remember them as well I should so I always feel that when people think of me I should work at being a better person. Also called, really drunk and left a charming but long lonely message, probably something I should put on a CD and archive for a rainy day when I feel like nobody likes me.

Sorry guys I didn't even hear the phone calling me in the middle of the night is very appropriate and normal time to call me, usually I'm more likely to pick up then if you call me anytime during daylight hours.) I don't know whats up with my sleep schedule, I tend to want to be up most nights, and most mornings, but afternoons, and early evenings. They tend to be times where I'd rather be asleep, it's unfortunate that thats also the times when It's most logical to be up looking for jobs or running errands or doing things involving people.

I'm not anti social it's something else I swear.

Anyway in other news my sis called yesterday as well, she just turned 18 so now all of moms kids are all grown up. She told me my mom ran off to New Mexico, If you think Arizona is rural try New Mexico!

Who knows when I'll hear from her, I wonder what she's gonna do now that she really doesn't have any kids left to worry and think about. (We are all dispersed on the east coast and she's all out in the South West Turner country.

I've got allot of shows and parties lined up to go to until after Halloween.

I feel bad a bit because i feel like I've done a wonderfully good job of putting off any actual responsibilities and stuff to just go out and socialize and see bands. It's not even intentional it's just become a pattern and habit of sorts. I guess with any interest people have it's easy to get caught up in it and not put so much thought into other parts of the outside world.

The Funny thing is for every one thing I'm going to there are like 1 or 2 or in some cases 3 things I'm missing out on. It will probably make up for it in January / February when there tends to be huge dry spells of shows to go to let alone trying to convince people to leave their house to go on an adventure. (I need to find my own).

I can't wait until then though to try and get a job or figure out what school I'm going to and sign up for classes.

and my opinion on the new CD Bleed the Gray Sky Black. Is that I actually like it.

Yes it's more commercial, and I'm kinda bummed Gopal doesn't do any back up vocals. I do feel like they tend to represent music I tend to not like. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy listening to most of it so it's to an extent a guilty pleasure of sorts.

In all honesty I've always kinda felt that way about them. They blur the line. Anyway I do have to say, Earth Angel sounds too produced and there are no backup vocal harmonies which is kinda disappointing since It WAS a doo wop song.

ALSO the song Bleed Again weirds me out. With Andy doing the typical Metalcore raspy vocals. I mean allot of guys can't sing and when they try it just sounds more annoying then when they growl / rasp (grasp?

), thats probably why they do it, they'll call it "extreme" but it's probably to cover for their shitty pipes. This isn't exactly the case for Andy and there is already too much fucking metalcore and too many bad metalcore vocals, even if he's trying a new style can't he just leave that singing to someone else it sounds mostly stupid anyway, and if not it's certainly overused and cloche, it's not like he's pushing the envelope or anything.
I think in the future of Bella Morte I'm more looking forward to a Gopal solo album (Is that even something that is happening or will happen) more than what the next BM CD will sound like.

I think so far the track I like best on the CD is #2 even though it's called "Torn" which is also the title of a really popular and shitty Creed hit awhile ago, which is just an association I don't like to make but I do mentally.

is playing next Tuesday at the Plough and Stars Between Central and Harvard the Show starts at 930-10 (and Sundays at Reardons 6-10) I think the Plough is a great venue for him to play, I thought he sounded more alive and fun then he tends to other places last Tuesday there. I think his natural environment is a little later at night then when he normally gets booked to play.

with the lights lower and the people noisier. SO for all you Cambridge / Somerville area people who didn't want to go out to Revere Beach or before that Salem to see him now is your chance!

Vidka burned me "Here are the Sonics" by the Sonics and it's awesome!

They play very dirty Garage punk (if you havent heard them) They are basically 10 years before Motorhead and 10 years after Little Richard. (The cover little Richard, Chuck Barry). It's too bad that when they do covers they don't sound quite as fun as the originals Their rawer which i tend to like better but it with songs like "Roll Over Beethoven" it sounds like there is less Humor.

I guess If Chuck Berry wrote that song to poke fun as his sister playing classical music the sonics are threatening to beat the crap out of anyone who stands in the way of rock an roll. Their originals on the other hand (or covers I'm not familiars with) sound Awesome! Allot of their stuff reminds me of the Ramones but seems heavier and more crazy with Sax and electric Piano.

Again reminding me that punk was more a revivalist movement than something unique in it's self.
Anyway it makes me wish I got to listening to them allot sooner, I also bought a CD "Back from the grave 2: the Raw and wild sounds of 60's Garage punk" mostly bands that were teenagers who put out only a single or two, hated all the bullshit they were surrounded by (while most people hated them) and all broke up because of collage, or had a date to get blown to bit's in Vietnam. IT's not as aggressive as The Sonics and dosn't even sound as pissed as some 10 year prior 50's rock NOR reaches the psycho "Cannibalistic" sounds of Screamin' Jay.

but they still managed to get their records banned and frighten parents so it's a step in the right direction. Not to mention much like the 80's hardcore moments these were mostly really young kids who may or may not own their instruments and certainly didn't have much cash or musical experience, so with that there is something interesting to listen to for those facts. Dick Dale and surf rock also came out around this time too, but that tended to be in California and places you could surf, I'm going out on a limb to say that weather or not you were near a beach could've been a deciding factor to weather you were a surf or garage band.

(That and if you could find a singer or could be bothered to write words)
Off to the first Halloween party of the Season soon. Dreaded Silence and Katatonia tomorrow, 45 Grave on Sunday and my birthday the day after that (I'm not quite sure what or what I'm not doing for that day, but I think I tend to be busy on Mondays anyway) then the next day I am Scheduled to be at the for a few hours in the day. Dinner with the family and then seeing the Preacher later that night.

Then there is plenty more but I'll get to that later. EXCEPT that the are doing an all Mummies set at the Abby on the 28th so expect to see me there and if I'm not it's probably because I died of old age.
