Robert Downey Jr. checked into rehab for the first time in 1996. It took several more stints (some court-ordered) and three jail stays before he stopped using drugs.


Courtney Love was ordered back into residential rehab in August 2005 after admitting to court she had relapsed.
Aaron Sorkin, creator of the West Wing and Studio 60, was arrested on drug charges in April 2001, a few months after he was honored for years of sobriety. He pleaded guilty and completed rehab.

Earlier in his career, he was treated for a cocaine habit.
Whitney Houston, who has filed for divorce from Bobby Brown, returned to rehab in March 2005, a year after she checked in and received five days of treatment.

"One can never let one's guard down on recovery," Keith Urban said Thursday when he checked into rehab with wife Nicole Kidman by his side.

Urban, who sought treatment for a cocaine habit in 1998, has plenty of company in the try-again club. USA TODAY lists other stars who have returned to rehab.
After his July drunken-driving arrest, he ackowledged a lifelong battle with alcoholism.

Twenty years after kicking alcohol and drugs, the comedian entered rehab in August "as a proactive measure to deal with" a relapse. He had been drinking in private for about three years, "thinking I could stop," he told USA TODAY.

"I finally realized that, no, I can't do it alone, and I need help."
The Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip star quietly checked into a rehab center, seeking treatment for drug and alcohol abuse, at the height of the popularity of NBC's Friends in 2001. It followed his 1997 stint for addiction to prescription drugs.

"It was scary. I didn't want to die," he told People in September 2002.
The actress re-entered rehab after becoming addicted to painkillers in 2000.

She first sought treatment to beat drugs and alcohol in 1988. Stepping into rehab "takes awareness more than courage," she told ABC's Primetime Thursday in 2002. "It's a monster .
