Pulitzer Prize-winning author Taylor Branch, a biographer of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., will speak at 7 p.
m. tomorrow at the First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, Duke of Gloucester and Conduit streets. Mr.
Branch has written three books on the civil rights era from 1954 to 1968, which chronicle the social revolution led by the Rev. King.
His topic, Nonviolence, Faith and Democracy, will tie in the civil rights movement with the humanitarian issues of today.
A resident of Baltimore, Mr. Branch s first book of the King trilogy, Parting the Waters published in 1988 won the Pulitzer for that year. The third and last, At Canaan s Edge has been nominated as a finalist for the 2006 National Book award.
The talk is co-sponsored by Asbury United Methodist, First Baptist, St. Anne s Episcopal, St. Mary s Catholic and the host church.
