(RTTNews) - Wellington shares settled the week's third trading session with thin gains on the positive thrust provided by select blue chips and taking cues from the Australian bourses, which closed at record highs. The chief NZX 50 index gained 11.26 points or 0.

30% to finish at 3,795.75, after hitting a record intra day high of 3,811.42.

A low of 3,781.69 was touched. A heavy turnover of NZ$200 million was generated in the day's trade with gainers outplaying losers by 59 to 33 out of 148 stocks traded.

Tower, Freightways, Air New Zealand and The Warehouse Group rose over a percent each. Steel Tube and Nuplex surged more than 2% each, while Fisher and Paykel Appliances chalked up a gain of almost 2%. Fisher and Paykel Healthcare soared 3.

1% despite posting a 6% fall in half year net profit. Sky City, Michael Hill and TrustPower climbed more than half a percent each. New Zealand Oil Gas jumped nearly 4.

5%. Infratil continued its bull run for the second straight session, after investors held optimism over the company's seemingly well priced deal to secure 50% of Trustpower. On the other hand, Fletcher Building dropped over 1%, Pumpkin Patch fell 0.

5% and Contact Energy slipped 0.1%. Telecom, Hellaby Holding, Hallenstein Glasson and Vector remained unchanged.
