CHICAGO, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Pop star Madonna was interviewed by Chicago talk show diva Oprah Winfrey about her adoption of an African baby via a satellite connection Tuesday.
The interview, which airs Wednesday, reportedly is an effort at convincing fans that she did the right thing in adopting the 13-month-old Malawian boy, the Chicago Sun-Times said.
The 48-year-old pop singer sparked the media s interest earlier this month when she and husband Guy Ritchie went to African to adopt a toddler.
"She has to put her voice out there, and not have an agency speak for her," Northwestern University s director of corporate public relations, Clarke Caywood, told the newspaper. "Hiding or covering up is the worst thing you can do, because the public never forgives hiding or cover-ups.
"
Members of the Oprah Winfrey Show s mostly female audience appeared receptive to Madonna s arguments for adopting the child in her first television interview on the controversy during post-show interviews broadcast on WLS-TV, Chicago.
