Police are investigating the possibility that a mother deliberately set fire to the family home killing herself and her two children. The bodies of the 27-year-old woman, her daughter, aged five, and son, aged three, were found in Dupont Gardens, New Parks, Leicester, on Saturday. The mother and children were originally from Burundi in Africa, police have confirmed.

Detectives are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine how the three died, the police spokesman added. Confirming as a line of inquiry that the mother may have started the fire deliberately, the spokesman said: "That will form part of the investigation, along with all other possibilities. It may be that the deaths were due to smoke inhalation.

" The partner was not under suspicion, police have confirmed.
